Viticulture in Sardinia has been in existence for ages even if winemaking hasn’t really taken off; only a few parts of this perfect Mediterranean land is actually given over to vines. Sardinian wines get an increasing quality - and 1 DOCG, 17 DOCs and 15 IGP by now, which is more than any other region. Those wines have quite little in common with others produced on the main land, definitely less than with Spanish ones for instance. The white varietals include seldom seen Nuragus and classics like Moscato or Malvasia and the reds some strong concentrated Grenache (”Cannonau”), Monica or Carignan.
